Lu yanping

Born in China

Live and work in Paris, France

In 2019, she entered the École Supérieure d'Art du Nord-Pas-de-Calais and obtained her Master’s degree in Fine Arts with honors in 2021. During her studies, she worked with a wide range of materials—including clay, wood, wire, paper, food, and eggshells—to create sculptures and installations.

From 2022 to 2025, her ceramic works were exhibited in several French cities and selected for international competitions in France, Poland, Germany and Spain. Her piece Teapot and I was acquired by the City Museum of Siegburg in Germany.

From September to November 2024, she completed her first artist residency in Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie, a town renowned for its ceramic heritage. There, she deepened her exploration of the Strange Teapot series—reimagining the teapot as a sculptural form that transcends function. By deconstructing and innovating the spout, body, and handle, she questions conventional notions of domestic ceramics, aiming to find a new visual and philosophical balance between utility and poetry, structure and spirit. Her teapot series was also selected for the International Young Ceramic Award in Diessen am Ammersee, Germany.

Influenced by Daoist philosophy, especially the idea of harmony through opposites in Laozi and Zhuangzi’s writings, her broader practice is committed to exploring various forms of balance in the world. In addition to innovating functional ceramics, she also creates conceptual sculptures that reflect on social phenomena and emotional undercurrents, with the hope of evoking empathy and offering gentle humanistic care through her work.
